"Hollywood Night" Raises over $22 Thousand for TOMODACHI Initiative

March 30, 2012, Fukuoka – U.S. Consulate Fukuoka and the Fukuoka Hilton Seahawk Hotel combined forces to organize and host a gala charity dinner with a Hollywood theme attended by over 440 of Fukuoka’s business and society leaders, with the proceeds going to support the TOMODACHI Initiative for Japan’s post-disaster revitalization.  Thanks to the generosity of corporate donors, sponsors and attendees, the event raised over 1.8 million yen ($22 thousand dollars) for TOMODACHI.  The Hollywood theme was also reflected in a “California Cuisine” menu, much of it made from U.S. products.

The sophisticated and elegant party featured Hollywood actor and “Last Samurai” co-star Shin Koyamada, many of the finalists from the 2012 Miss Universe Kyushu pageant, and performances by Michael Jackson tribute artist Toshi Jackson and rock band Undercover.  U.S. Ambassador John Roos appeared via video, expressing his thanks to the audience for their contributions to the TOMODACHI Initiative, and Fukuoka Principal Officer Jason Cubas added his own words of gratitude.  Japanese swordplay demonstrations by members of Fukuoka’s traditional “samurai arts” society, Fukuoka Kuroda Han Ryushin-Kai, and displays of high-performance sports cars by importer European Version contributed to the festive atmosphere.  LoveFM DJ Sach and Consulate Fukuoka Public Affairs Officer Mike Chadwick were the co-MCs for the event.

The Consulate would like to thank Fukuoka Hilton Seahawk Hotel General Manager Christian Baudet, and Mark Roth, Shino Kusunose, Kaori Hayashi and many other Hilton staff for all their efforts.  Hilton Hotels, Hilton Grand Vacations, Urban Legend, Stage Left Cellars, JC Cellars, Dashe Cellars, R&B Cellars, Goldstone Cellars, Groupon Japan, Hawaiian Airlines, Gallery Mizoe, Fukuoka Softbank Hawks Marketing, IKEA, Star Flyer, Asiana Airlines, Thai Airways and Royal CHIE provided valuable prizes for the charity auction. Coca Cola West Japan, Lions Club International, Gallery Mizoe, FedEx, Groupon Japan, Royal CHIE,VEGA, NTT West, Nippon Travel Agency and Fukuoka LP Gas Association provided valuable support by sponsoring tables for guests.  The U.S. Department of Commerce Export Assistant Center in Oakland, California, Oakland Fukuoka Sister City Group, European Version, Lucero Olive Oil, LLC/Mt. Stone Co., Ltd./Tagami International, Asahi Beer, ENOTECA, JUNO, Akira Suisan, αPRODUCE, Planning Office Amy, Kyushu Stage, and HIRYU SOUBI also generously supported the event with donations of products and services.
